I've copied this to the Benefits Section.

I got the report from the ESA medical this morning. I scored 0. I cannot believe it!
I am on higher rate mobility DLA, I was medically retired last year at 47 from the Police.
The doctor who examined me was lovely and I thought his English was quite good (I'm not being sarcastic). He asked me direct questions about how far I can walk. Watched me hobble from the waiting room with my walking stick etc etc.
Nowhere on the report does it mention appeal, but I phoned the ESA office straight away and asked to appeal. The lady on the phone was very sympathetic and stated that she has had a lot of people wanting to appeal, that a lot of the medical reports have seemed strange and even people on chemotherapy are getting a 0 score.
WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON!
I won't even get any extra money if I am successful, only my 'stamp' paid, but I still need that.
I really don't need this hassle. If it wasn't for hearing about other fiasco's on the forum I would be really upset and worried, now I'm just cross!
Feel better for the rant!

What a terrible injustice!

I am speechless (which is a rare occurrence).

You must complain!

Love,

Amanda

Hi Jan,

Well they're hauling me in soon and I have a job to go back to as soon as, and if, the Humira starts to work. They are a bunch of idiots and do not have a clue about illnesses or disability issues. Look at it this way, some of the assessors are not doctors not alone specialists in RA so I'm not surprised to hear that people are being told they are fit to go back to work when they are clearly not!

The DWP have outsourced the whole process to a company called ATOS who are doing the assessments - guess what, they have targets to meet and the renewal of their contracts depend on how many people they can sign off as being fit for work and off ESA or Incapacity benefit!!

Good luck with your appeal!

Love,

Barbara

Hi Jan,

I think you'll find,as others have said, that nearly everyone is going to get shafted by these medicals. We will all end up appealing. Make sure you do. If there's enough appeals they will have to change the system or it will collapse!
A friend is someone who knows all about you but loves you anyway!

This is awful Jan. I agree you should appeal. I am dreading being sent for an assessment. I heard this morning on the radio that the govt think that 1 in 6 of all IB claimants are fit to do some work!!

Good luck Jan.
